starts right now. this is the 10:00 news on ktvu channel 2. >> rising waters are threatening property in the north bay as flood warnings go up and authorities caution residents to be prepared for the worst. >> good evening, i'm ken wayne. >> good evening, i'm maureen naylor, heather holmes is off tonight we're on storm watch. we have team camera tonight. meteorologist mark tamayo will detail when the next storm will hit and we begin with ktvu's lorraine lorraine blanco live in napa. >> reporter: the flood warning runs through the night and so does the sandbag operation. city workers say residents have filled 40,000 tons of sand. near the napa river many spent is their saturday blocking openings in case the river overflows its bank. as for downtown, city leaders tell us napas a years long project is two-thirds complete and believe those measures will protect the area. >> we're looking at our modeling and our flood project improvements and we're anticipating that what we have done to protect the community from flooding will keep the river in its banks within the city based on the pro

coverage for you tonight. chief meteorologist bill martin is in the ktvu weather center where he's been tracking the storm all day. maureen naylor is standing by but we begin with jana katsuyama where it's been raining. in healdsburg. >> reporter: see how wet the ground is, all of that water is seeping into the ground and ending up in local rivers and streams this is the russian river. you can see how fast it is going. it could reach near flood levels by the time the next storm finishes. rain is drenching almost soaked roads. areas stream, rivers and low lying areas are flooding. with two storms down there's still one more to go. a storm watch is in effect. >> the storm surge is down 2- 1/2 feet below the bottom of the bridge. >> reporter: although water levels dropped today with the tide flooding signs remained in place for the next storm. concerned residents came out to see the russian river it rose 14 feet in 17 hours covering parts of johnson beach. >> this is high, very high. >> reporter: water crept precariously close to near by homes and one man showed us his dock swept away and

will this storm last and how much rain will actually fall. john sasaki, ktvu news. >> and live storm tracker 2 is showing an increase in the rainfall across parts of the bay area. that trend will continue in the next couple of hours. you can see the live doppler sweep and reports of rainfall. san francisco, oakland, san mateo, palo alto and the fremont area. here we go significant rainfall. heavier down the creek. as far as the expectations with this system the second storm system moves through the night. a wind advisory and high surf advisory kicks in tomorrow. here is the forecast model it is speeding up the timing a little bit. this is a change. we could be talking about heavy rain as early as friday morning. that's a recent change with this rainfall forecast model. coming up and we'll take a look at pretty impressive rainfall expected with this system and another one that will move in just in time for your weekend. >>> people who live in the santa cruz mountains take a close look at the trees as they see high winds moving in. the cruz family has been keeping a close eye at this rotted tree

several months. reporting live in downtown san rafael. amber lee, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> along the coast, caltrans crews have been busy trying to stabilize a known trouble spot in san mateo county. the crews have been trying to mitigate the erosion. traffic was reduced to one lane between linda mar and pacifica and the north portal bridge area of devil slide. and in the santa cruz mountain crews are still trying to shore up vine hill road in scotts valley. county officials say restoring at least one lane is a top priority because it's a crucial connection to highway 17 and the silican valley. crews told us they wanted to get that lane open by today but now the hope is it will stay open by tomorrow afternoon. >>> live storm tracker 2, showers north of the area. san rafael as you just saw. you can see most of the activity the real heavy stuff is up here north of sacramento. it's coming a little closer. we head out toward the north bay. that's where the heavier showers have been. they've been moderate to light. santa rosa, but you see it's widely scattered right. there's napa, fairfield, va
